Use Policies
Materials from the PUH are for non-commercial use. Requested plant specimens should not be sold, patented, transferred, used for product development or market research, or used such that other tangible or intangible rights are impinged.
-
A formal written request must be sent to the curator of the herbarium regarding request of samples. The request should include details on the samples required, the individuals requesting for the samples, the nature of the research and an estimate of the amount of the materials needed.
Materials may not be removed from the herbarium without prior consent from the curator of the PUH.
-
Each request must be accompanied by a signed authorized form. Material may be removed only after the authorization form has been approved.
-
If permission is granted, leaf material, pollen spores, etc. may be removed from the specimens given that there is an adequate amount of material present. Utmost care must be taken not to damage the specimen.
-
Specimens can only be sampled once for the same study. Exceptions may be made when the specimen has additional leaf material for DNA studies.
-
Any publication resulting from the use of PUH plant materials should acknowledge the University of the Philippines Herbarium as supplier or, under certain circumstances, be published in collaboration with a staff member of the PUH. A copy of any resulting publications should be sent to the Curator of the PUH.
-
Samples of genetic material must be properly stored and curated and should not be made available to others for further study. The researcher must provide the PUH with the location and storage method of any remaining sample. The PUH reserves the right to request tissues originally obtained from PUH specimens.
